THE OPPORTUNITY

Heritage transformed into dynamic A-Grade active workspace

Originally home to Milne and Choyce, one of New Zealand’s largest and most successful department stores, the historically significant 131 Queen Street is undergoing an imaginative transformation to welcome WeWork as its sole office tenant. The building’s revitalised ground floor retail space will look to take advantage of its quality and luxury branded neighbours alongside the city’s liveliest street front.

131 Queen Street has always been at the cutting edge of Auckland commerce. Originally used as a high-end department store and today occupied by the technology sector, and the knowledge economy.

Designed by Auckland architect Llew Piper and constructed by Fletcher Brothers in 1924, the building’s structure was one of flat slab construction, and was one of New Zealand’s first specifically designed earthquake resilient buildings.

Today the building remains a mainstay on the Queen Street streetscape in the Auckland CBD market, where character buildings are highly sought after as shown by the rentals and yields evidenced from recent transactions.
